Geely has officially introduced the Starshine 8, a plug-in hybrid sedan under its Geely Galaxy sub-brand. This new vehicle is offered in seven different trims, priced between 125,800 and 165,800 yuan, which translates to approximately $17,400 to $22,900 USD. The Starshine 8 boasts two versions in terms of total driving range: 1,500 km and 1,600 km, providing a strong option for those prioritizing extended travel capability on a single tank and charge.
The Starshine 8 features a sleek fastback design, emphasizing aerodynamics and a modern aesthetic. Its dimensions are 5018 mm in length, 1918 mm in width, and 1480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2928 mm. This gives the vehicle a spacious cabin while maintaining a streamlined profile. It achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.25Cd, which aids in reducing air resistance and improving fuel efficiency. Depending on the trim, the vehicle’s curb weight varies between 1760 kg, 1860 kg, and 1908 kg.
In terms of driver assistance technologies, five out of the seven trims are equipped with the advanced G-Pilot system. This system includes a 126-line roof-mounted LiDAR, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 10 cameras. Together, they support features like parking assistance in over 300 different situations, automatic emergency braking (up to 90 km/h), and evasive maneuvering assistance (effective up to 120 km/h). The remaining two trims come with a more basic safety system, which still includes two millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and five cameras. All versions feature a 1.36-square-meter panoramic sunroof, adding a sense of openness to the cabin.
Inside, the cockpit is designed with a modern T-shaped layout. A 10.2-inch LCD instrument cluster pairs with a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, both powered by Flyme Auto, Geely’s advanced in-car system. This interface is supported by the Dragon Eagle-1 7nm chip and integrates DeepSeek’s AI model. Select trims also offer a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD). Additional amenities include an AI voice assistant, OTA software updates, 50W wireless phone charging, 256-color ambient lighting, a premium 23-speaker sound system, and 405 liters of trunk space—enough to hold five 20-inch suitcases. The cabin also contains 30 separate storage areas and features ventilated, heated, and massaging seats for added comfort.
Under the hood, the Starshine 8 is powered by either the Thor EM-P or Thor EM-i plug-in hybrid systems. For the EM-P versions, the car includes a 1.5T engine producing 161 hp and 255 Nm, paired with a DHT Evo transmission and a front electric motor generating 215 hp and 350 Nm. These trims use an 18.4 kWh LFP battery, offer 130 km of electric-only range (CLTC), and reach 0–100 km/h in just 6.49 seconds, with a combined range of 1,500 km and fuel consumption rated at 3.67L/100 km.
The EM-i trims feature a 1.5L engine with 110 hp and 136 Nm, working alongside an E-DHT transmission and a 211 hp front motor. Depending on the trim, they use either an 8.5 kWh or 18.4 kWh LFP battery, offering 60 km or 130 km of electric range, respectively. Fuel economy improves to 3.43L/100 km, and acceleration from 0–100 km/h is achieved in 8.4 seconds for the entry model and 7.9 seconds for the higher variant. These versions boast a total driving range of 1,600 km, making the Starshine 8 a strong competitor in the hybrid market.
