Geely has officially unveiled its most substantial and luxurious vehicle to date — the 2026 Galaxy M9, a plug-in hybrid SUV with a striking design and impressive features. This full-size model offers three rows of seating to accommodate six passengers and includes high-end styling cues such as optional chrome B-pillar trim, reminiscent of the premium touches seen on the Mercedes-Maybach. The vehicle made its global debut at a special event held in Milan, Italy, marking a major milestone for the Chinese automaker as the Galaxy M9 becomes the first model built on Geely’s new ‘AI digital chassis’. This advanced platform was initially introduced to the public at the Shanghai Auto Show just a month prior.

As a member of the Geely Galaxy sub-brand, the M9 joins a growing lineup of electrified vehicles. These include the all-electric Galaxy E5 — known in Australia as the Geely EX5 — and the mid-sized plug-in hybrid Galaxy Starship 7. All Galaxy-branded vehicles fall under Geely’s push for innovative, tech-forward electric and hybrid mobility solutions tailored to global markets.

While the Galaxy M9 is a China-focused release for now, Geely Auto Australia has stated that no immediate plans are confirmed for introducing the M9 to the Australian market. However, the company has outlined its broader ambitions, confirming that it aims to launch six new hybrid or electric vehicles in Australia by 2028. A company spokesperson explained that Geely is actively evaluating market conditions and consumer demand to ensure its future vehicle lineup is aligned with local preferences.

According to CarNewsChina, the Galaxy M9 is a sizable SUV, measuring 5205mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1800mm in height — dimensions that closely match the Mercedes-Benz GLS, placing it firmly in the full-size luxury SUV category. The M9 is expected to be outfitted with cutting-edge features, including a 30-inch combined display that integrates both the digital instrument panel and the infotainment system. It will also feature an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), designed to meet or exceed the highest safety standards — potentially aiming for what Geely refers to as a “five-star-plus” safety rating.

Under the hood, the plug-in hybrid system promises notable performance, with a claimed fuel consumption of just 4.8L per 100 kilometers, a range of up to 1500 kilometers on combined fuel and electric power, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. While final technical specifications are yet to be disclosed, more comprehensive details and pricing — estimated to range from AU$43,000 to AU$64,000 — are expected to be announced closer to the model’s official launch in China.
