Hyundai has taken a significant step towards expanding its electric vehicle offerings in India with the unveiling of the Creta Electric. This all-new electric SUV, built upon the foundation of the immensely popular Creta, introduces a zero-emissions powertrain option to the existing lineup. While retaining the core design elements of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the Creta Electric boasts subtle yet distinctive visual cues that differentiate it as an electric vehicle.

The most prominent change lies in the front fascia, where the traditional grille has been replaced by a sleek, closed-off panel adorned with a pixelated pattern, a hallmark of Hyundai's electric vehicle design language. The lower bumper intake features active aero flaps, further enhancing the vehicle's aerodynamics and efficiency. At the rear, the bumper incorporates a similar pixelated pattern above the aluminum-style skid plate, while discreet plastic cladding accentuates the SUV's rugged character. The side profile largely mirrors that of the ICE-powered Creta, although the electric version rides on a set of newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels optimized for aerodynamics. The Creta Electric is also available in a striking new Ocean Blue metallic shade, adding a touch of vibrancy to its exterior.

The interior of the Creta Electric reflects Hyundai's commitment to creating a modern and technologically advanced driving experience. The most notable change is the introduction of a new steering wheel, elegantly integrated with a gear selector reminiscent of the one found in the Ioniq 5. A conveniently placed knob on the center console allows drivers to seamlessly switch between three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, enabling them to tailor the vehicle's performance to their driving preferences. The digital cockpit, comprising dual 10.25-inch displays, showcases new graphics tailored specifically for the electric powertrain. Furthermore, the Creta Electric incorporates a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, enabling owners to power various electronic devices by plugging them into a dedicated port located beneath the rear bench.

While Hyundai has yet to disclose the detailed specifications of the electric powertrain, it is expected to feature a single electric motor driving the front wheels. The automaker has revealed an impressive 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds, surpassing even the performance of the ICE-powered Creta N Line. The Creta Electric will be available with two battery pack options: a 42 kWh battery offering a range of 390 km and a larger 51.4 kWh battery providing an extended range of 473 km, both measured under the local ARAI testing protocol. The larger battery pack enables a 10-80% charge in just 58 minutes using a DC fast charger, while a full charge from 10% to 100% can be achieved in approximately 4 hours using a standard 11 kW AC wallbox. The Creta Electric also features a small frunk located beneath the hood, providing convenient storage space for charging cables and other small items. The charging port is discreetly integrated behind the Hyundai emblem on the front bumper.

The Hyundai Creta Electric is scheduled for its official unveiling at the Bharat Mobility Show in India on January 17, 2025. While Hyundai has not yet confirmed plans for a global launch, the success of the Creta Electric in the Indian market could pave the way for its introduction in other regions with growing demand for electric vehicles.
