The Ineos Grenadier, marking its debut in the U.S., is facing an immediate recall, shedding light on a potential safety issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that vehicles equipped with the optional auxiliary switch package may have a relay control wire at risk of being trapped beneath the relay power cable connection nut during assembly. This situation could compromise the insulation integrity of the relay control wire, posing a significant risk of a thermal event or, worst-case scenario, a vehicle fire. If a short circuit occurs, there is also the possibility of smoke emanating from the cargo area.
Ineos initiated an investigation in November when a vehicle was discovered with "pinched and trapped" wiring. While only one instance has been identified so far, the company, prioritizing safety, decided to issue a recall for 706 vehicles from the 2024 model year. The remedy is straightforward – dealers will inspect the wiring, undertaking necessary repairs or replacements to rectify any damage.
As a reminder, the Ineos Grenadier is a robust body-on-frame SUV, starting at $71,500. Powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter BMW inline-six generating 282 hp and 450 Nm of torque, it employs an eight-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system. The recall serves as a precautionary measure, ensuring the safety and reliability of the Grenadier for its users.
