Mazda will sell its latest CUV CX-30 in Australia from September. The CX-30 will be available for Australian buyers with base price of AU$40,590 which is equivalent to US$28,120. The base model Mazda CX-30 uses an innovative Skyactiv-X mild-hybrid engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. By paying an extra AU$1000 buyers will get the same power unit mated to the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

SkyActiv-X

The CX-30 X20 model will be also available from AU$46,490 and equipped with an automatic transmission and AWD system.

Mazda Skyactiv-X engine can produce 180 hp and 224 NM of torque. These numbers put the Skyactiv-X between Mazda G20 models with 2.0-liter 153 hp and G25 2.5-liter 186 hp engines.

Spark Free Engine

Mazda Skyactiv-X is the first hybrid power unit in the world that benefits from the spark-free engine. While this is a gasoline engine it ignites the fuel by compression, like diesel engines. Mazda said that this design helps the gasoline engine to have the efficiency of diesel engines. The Skyactiv-X also uses a belt-driven starter generator which makes it a mild-hybrid engine. The starter generator is backed by a 24V lithium-ion battery pack.
