Huawei and Seres have officially unveiled the latest version of their large extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) crossover, the all-new Aito M7, in China. This redesigned model adopts the same modern styling language previously introduced with the Aito M8 and is set to launch in the Chinese market in September 2025. The introduction of this updated model is a strategic move to revive sales momentum, which had been slowing in recent months. Additionally, there is speculation that the refreshed M7 will be marketed internationally under the Seres nameplate, continuing the brand’s global expansion.
Originally debuting in 2022, the Aito M7 was an EREV SUV based on the Dongfeng Fengon ix7, which was originally a gasoline-powered vehicle. When it first hit the market, the M7 was priced at 319,800 yuan (approximately $44,700).
Following its lukewarm reception, the vehicle underwent a price cut in late 2023, dropping to 258,000 yuan ($36,060). This price adjustment resulted in a significant rise in demand, with 193,342 units sold in 2024 alone. Despite that surge, sales saw a steep 71% decline in the first half of 2025, according to China EV DataTracker. This downturn prompted Huawei and Seres to launch a fully revamped version of the M7.
The new Aito M7 adopts the "Interstellar Matrix" design philosophy, characterized by a sleek, closed-off front grille, gauntlet-shaped LED headlights, a trapezoidal air intake, and a single-piece taillight bar. Design enhancements also include flush door handles, multi-spoke alloy wheels, and chrome accents. The vehicle now features blackened pillars, roof rails, and a LiDAR unit mounted on the roof—likely supporting Huawei's ADS 4 autonomous driving system. Core features of this system include collision avoidance at all speeds, intelligent parking, and advanced traffic navigation, including roundabout maneuvering. One new aesthetic feature is the introduction of a "Coral Red" exterior paint option.
Although official size details haven’t been released, the new M7 is expected to maintain the same dimensions as its predecessor, measuring 5020 mm long, 1945 mm wide, and 1760 mm tall. The vehicle will continue to utilize an EREV powertrain similar to that of the M8, including a 4WD variant with up to 526 hp powered by a battery capacity between 37 and 53.4 kWh. Additionally, the system includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivering 158 hp, functioning as a generator. The base version of the M7 will likely feature rear-wheel drive with a 304 hp electric motor.
The 2025 Aito M7 is expected to remain competitively priced, ranging between 249,800 and 329,800 yuan (roughly $34,920 to $46,100). With global markets in view, this model could soon be introduced overseas under the Seres 7 name, following the path of the first-generation M7.
