Nissan presented the GT-R T-Spec as a prospective alternative to the R35 GT-R earlier this month. That remains to be seen since some sources suggest the current-generation supercar may receive a mild-hybrid system. There are even speculations of a more powerful Final Edition before it is decommissioned in the coming years.
In a press statement addressing the 2022 GT-R, Nissan Australia's managing director Adam Paterson announced the performance machine will be phased out soon.
While his comments may lead some to believe that the R35 may be modified to satisfy tighter regulations, Adam Paterson went on to say that the 2022 GT-R will be the end of this generation's car. As if that wasn't enough, he stated that the T-Spec and Nismo SV special editions will be the final time the current-generation car is available in Australia.
Although this is not a clear confirmation of an R36-generation vehicle, it is the next best thing. There's also the question of how the next-generation model will be built, with some sources claiming it would be based on an upgraded version of the existing platform, a technique the Japanese company has previously employed.
That mild-hybrid configuration we discussed previously might be slated for the R36, which is expected to keep the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 tuned for efficiency to satisfy more strict emissions laws.
