Subaru has officially confirmed the arrival of the highly anticipated hybrid variant of the new-generation Forester in the US market by mid-2025. While designated as a 2025 model year, the actual market launch may extend into 2026. This eagerly awaited addition to the Forester lineup will retain Subaru's renowned Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, while significantly enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions compared to its gasoline-powered counterparts.

The Forester Hybrid is poised to feature a sophisticated self-charging hybrid system, drawing inspiration from the recently unveiled Crosstrek Hybrid in Japan. This innovative series-parallel system seamlessly transitions between the gasoline engine and electric motor as the primary power source, adapting to varying driving conditions for optimal efficiency.

At the heart of this system lies a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine, delivering a robust 158 horsepower. This engine seamlessly collaborates with two electric motors. The primary traction motor contributes an additional 118 horsepower, directly powering the wheels. The second motor functions as a generator, efficiently recharging the battery pack. A compact 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides the necessary energy for the electric drive. While this battery capacity may not offer extensive all-electric range, it is expected to significantly boost overall fuel economy.

Subaru has strategically leveraged its partnership with Toyota, renowned for its hybrid vehicle expertise, in the development of this cutting-edge powertrain. This collaboration has resulted in a hybrid system that promises a substantial 20% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to Subaru's previous e-Boxer hybrid system, previously offered in select markets but notably absent from the US.

Visually, the Forester Hybrid is expected to maintain a close resemblance to its gasoline-powered sibling, adhering to Subaru's signature understated design philosophy. Subtle distinctions will likely include a unique hybrid badge adorning the tailgate, as evidenced by earlier spy shots.

While the exact launch date for the Forester Hybrid remains undisclosed, Subaru has proactively invited interested customers to express their interest through its official website. The standard 2025 Forester carries a starting price of $29,695, with a $1,420 delivery fee, bringing the total to $31,115 before taxes. The hybrid variant is expected to command a premium over the standard model, with the final pricing determined by the available trim levels and optional features.

The arrival of the Forester Hybrid marks a significant milestone for Subaru, expanding its electrified vehicle offerings and catering to the growing demand for fuel-efficient and environmentally conscious SUVs. This strategic move positions Subaru to compete effectively in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape while maintaining its core values of all-weather capability and driver-focused performance.
