A year ahead of the European launch, Toyota has launched the Yaris Cross in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) with a base price of $17,000. The Yaris Cross is built on the TNGA platform. Inside Japan, buyers can choose between two different powertrains.
The base model gets a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with 118 hp and 145 nm of torque mated to a Direct Shift-CVT transmission. This model is available in both FWD and AWD versions.
The other variant uses a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 90 hp and 120 nm of torque alongside with an electric motor that pumps out 79 hp and 141 nm of torque. The hybrid version is also available in both FWD or AWD versions and its fuel consumption is only 3.2 l/100km.
Toyota Yaris Cross offers 390 liters of trunk space and an optional power tailgate. Standard features for Yaris Cross are Display Audio (DA) and Data Communication Module (DCM), SmartDeviceLink (SDL), Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and TFT color LCD multi-information display.
Buyers also get Toyota Safety Sense as standard. The package includes Advanced Park, Full Speed Range Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist and Adaptive Hi-beam System. Other safety features are Pre-collision Safety System, Emergency Steering Assist, Road Sign Assist and Low Speed Acceleration Control.
