Honda has introduced the facelifted version of the Civic for the Japanese market, including a new RS trim that boasts a sportier suspension, rev-matching, and a six-speed manual transmission. Unlike the US-spec Honda Civic Si, which is exclusively available as a sedan, the Japanese Civic RS comes in a five-door hatchback body style.
The Civic RS stands out in the Japanese market as the only trim offered with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the rest of the lineup features a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This manual transmission is paired with the standard turbocharged 1.5-liter VTEC engine. Honda has equipped the Civic RS with a sportier suspension setup and a rev-matching system, enhancing its appeal to driving enthusiasts.
The facelifted Civic range in Japan also includes the LX and EX trims. These trims are available with either the turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine or the more efficient “Sports e:HEV” self-charging hybrid powertrain.
Visually, the Honda Civic RS mirrors the concept shown at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon. The redesigned bumper is a standard feature across the range, but the RS trim is distinguished by special emblems, darker trim, black 18-inch wheels, and functional tailpipes at the rear.
The sporty appearance of the Civic RS can be further enhanced with genuine accessories from the Honda Access catalog. Notable options include a large wing reminiscent of the Civic Type R, a more discreet ducktail spoiler, aerodynamic bumper extensions, and a sporty garnish for the grille and lower bumper intake.
Inside, the Civic RS features red inserts on the dashboard and door panels, creating a striking contrast with the dark-themed upholstery.
The updated Honda Civic is set to launch in the Japanese market in September 2024, with pricing and detailed specifications to be announced at a later date.
