The United States has recalled more than 124,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter cars. According to a recall notice issued by the NHTSA, the guiding bushing of the park pawl may wear out more quickly due to specific driver parking techniques and the fastest speed at which the parking lock function can be used. This implies that the parking pawl might momentarily not engage.

Models of the 2019–2022 Mercedes–Benz Sprinter and the 2019–2022 Freightliner Sprinter that were made between March 2, 2018 and October 17, 2022 are affected by the recall. 124,305 units in total are affected.

According to Mercedes-Benz, it is impossible to completely rule out the chance that the car could occasionally roll away from its parked position, increasing the danger of accidents.

Mercedes-Benz will update the software of different control systems, including the ESP and transmission control unit, to reduce the threshold speed and recalibrate the PLS in order to remedy the issue.

The recall is expected to be announced to dealers on or around December 12, 2022, with owners receiving notice one week later.
