Volkswagen recently introduced the ID.7 Tourer, and now, within a remarkably short span of less than a month, they've unveiled the second model in the ID.7 estate series: the ID.7 GTX Tourer. This release coincides with the introduction of the new ID.3 GTX, and there are hints of a potential addition to the series with an ID. Buzz GTX in the foreseeable future.

Distinguishing the ID.7 GTX Tourer from its conventional counterpart are a plethora of visual enhancements. Notable alterations include a fresh honeycomb grille and distinctive light graphics, along with high-gloss black accents and standard 20-inch wheels. For those aiming for a more standout appearance, there's the option of upgrading to 21-inch alloy wheels.

The rear of the vehicle sees further updates, including a revised diffuser, newly introduced GTX badging, and customizable 3D LED tail light clusters featuring an illuminated Volkswagen emblem. A striking addition to the GTX lineup is the vibrant Kings Red Metallic finish, paying homage to the iconic paint scheme of the first-generation Golf GTI. Additionally, buyers have the choice of Glacier White Metallic, Scale Silver Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, and Moonstone Grey Solid exterior color options.

Inside the cabin, occupants are treated to ergonomically designed seats with a GTX-specific layout, upholstered in a blend of fabric and ArtVelours Eco microfleece adorned with red seams and GTX lettering. Volkswagen offers the GTX with bespoke ergoActive front seats boasting 12-way adjustment, memory functionality, and adjustable thigh support. These seats also feature heating and ventilation options and are part of the Interior Plus Package, which includes a 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system. An optional panoramic sunroof, capable of transitioning between opaque and transparent states at the touch of a button, is also available.

Among the notable features are an augmented reality head-up display, Volkswagen's new IDA voice assistant incorporating ChatGPT integration, and compatibility with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional extras include Park Assist Plus for automated parking, Connected Travel Assist featuring Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control ACC, and Emergency Assist, as well as autonomous emergency braking and Dynamic Road Sign Display.

The primary distinction between the GTX and the standard ID.7 Tourer lies in the powertrain. The GTX is equipped with an 86 kWh lithium-ion battery, facilitating rapid charging speeds of up to 200 kW at high-speed chargers, allowing for a 10 to 80% charge in less than 30 minutes. Powering the vehicle are two electric motors, making the ID.7 GTX Tourer the most powerful VW estate car to date.

Combined, the front and rear motors deliver 335 hp, a significant increase of 54 hp compared to the standard rear-wheel-drive ID.7 Tourer Pro. The front electric motor responds swiftly to power demands and driving conditions, with power distributed through electronic differential locks and all-wheel drive. Although Volkswagen hasn't disclosed acceleration figures, the ID.7 GTX Tourer promises exhilarating performance, reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.

Enhancing the upgraded powertrain are a sporty progressive steering system, reinforced stabilizers, and an optional adaptive chassis control system. Additionally, an ESC Sport mode is available for drivers seeking an extra dose of excitement.

While Volkswagen has yet to announce pricing for the ID.7 GTX Tourer, European pre-sales are set to commence in the spring. Unfortunately, like its standard counterpart, the GTX variant will not be available in North America.
