Qashqai is one of the Nissans big SUVs family and entered to the market years ago. But this year, in 2021 the third-generation is would be debuted. It seems that company has released detailed information about this vehicle. Now on, Nissan Qashqai is a mild-hybrid four-cylinder turbocharged engine or the new ePower hybrid system which goes well with the new world demands.
As there are two powertrain options for the new Qashqai, staring with the first version of engine which is already used by Renault and Mercedes Benz models. Of course, this 1.3-liter turbo engine is updated. the other option of engine is the 12V mild-hybrid system which is not just affordable but also need a smaller engine on its circuit. The Lithium-ion battery on it helps to improve stop-start functionality.
Although, on the mild-hybrid system engine, 22 Kg is added to the weight but fuel consumption is more economy. By using the all-wheel drive system or not, the engine output can be 138 hp or 156 hp. The all-wheel drive has “more intuitive and intelligent” system which features five driving modes. The shift power to the rear wheels is now much quicker than the old system.
Also, Nissan gave to option of gearboxes to the customers. A six-speed manual transmission or (on the more powerful unit) a CVT automatic. It seems that after testing both CVT and dual-clutch systems several times, CVT is more efficient.
The new platform for the new Qashqai is designed and engineered in UK, and as said before don’t have a Diesel engine. Of course, the base efforts came from Japan. The similarities in new Juke and Qashqai are not ignorable. Nissan claims the overall design objective has been to offer “the best stance in the segment”, with a “more muscular yet dynamic image”. A wider track, bigger-diameter wheels and a stronger shoulder line are claimed to enable this.
But what is surprising is that, this generation is about 60kg lighter in struction. The main material on this is ultra-high-strength steel. This effort has done to make the car more rigid and also provide the highest possible safety. Also, the unique design of struction, and joints improved the strength too. But for doors, mainly Aluminum is used (which saves about 21 kg).
One of the biggest changes in new Qashqai, is the ePower hybrid. In this system engine is not connected to the wheels directly, it should first charge the battery, which feed the electric motor which drives the wheels. This system is very popular in Japan. Nissan claims it has been “significantly upgraded” for European customers.
When it comes to the inner space of the third-generation Qashqai, it’s a bit larger than before (35mm longer, 32mm wider and 25mm taller and 20mm added to the wheelbase). Also, interior is a bit bigger than before too. The shoulder room and rear Knee room is improved. The tailgate can be opened just by a wave under the bumper.
The center console has additional space for storage, the seats are more ergonomic. Also, now there is no need to release the footwell for changing fuel filler. Instead, the capless fuel filler cover opens externally. What is more? The new 9.0in high-resolution touchscreen offering wireless Apple CarPlay, a 12.3in instrument display on top models, plus a 10.8in head-up, A 15W wireless phone charger plus a combination of USB-A and USB-C ports and the alongside Bose audio packages.
Don’t forget the collision warning which can see not just one car in front, but also to ahead. The autonomous braking is smoother, with higher speed range. the lane-keeping tech has been made smoother and more natural, while being able to self-steer in cornering forces up to 0.2g. also, this Qashqai can automatically reduce the car speed and keep it in legal limits, reduce speed at before corners and junctions.
There are so much to say about this big buddy. Thanks to AUTOCAR we are informed for now. In this year as Qashqai unveiled, we get more about it.
