BYD is set to expand its Song L SUV lineup with the introduction of a new, performance-oriented variant: the Song L GT. This all-electric SUV builds upon the foundation of the existing Song L EV, introducing sportier design elements and upgraded features to appeal to customers seeking a more dynamic and stylish electric driving experience. The Song L GT will be offered in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, providing a broader range of performance options.

From a visual standpoint, the Song L GT retains much of the Song L EV’s original styling while incorporating several distinctive enhancements. At the front, the bumper has been redesigned to emphasize a larger black trim area, giving the SUV a more aggressive and athletic look. Additional black detailing has been added between the headlights to strengthen the sporty aesthetic. A “GT” badge is now positioned on the lower right side of the rear, clearly distinguishing this model from its base variant. Meanwhile, the taillights and active electric rear wing – a feature also found on the standard Song L – remain present. This rear wing, according to official data, can reduce energy consumption by approximately 0.88 kWh per 100 kilometers, contributing to the vehicle’s overall efficiency.

The Song L GT maintains the same dimensions as the regular Song L EV, measuring 4,840 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. The curb weight of the vehicle stands at 2,380 kilograms. As for exterior upgrades, the Song L GT offers customers a selection of 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels in different designs, and includes red-painted brake calipers to reinforce the car’s performance-oriented identity.

In terms of performance, the rear-wheel-drive version of the Song L GT will be available in two power levels. The entry-level variant will house a 228 horsepower electric motor, marking an improvement from the 201 hp motor in the current Song L EV. The higher-end RWD model will retain the same 308 hp motor. On the AWD version, the front electric motor has received a power boost, increasing from 150 kW to 215 horsepower, while the rear motor remains unchanged at 230 kW.

BYD has yet to confirm the specific battery capacity for the Song L GT. However, it is likely to use a variation of the Blade battery technology seen in the Song L EV. For context, the current EV models offer 71.8 kWh and 81.04 kWh battery packs, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 550 km and 662 km, respectively. Additionally, the new GT variant is expected to come standard with a roof-mounted lidar sensor. This would likely support BYD’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which include the high-end “God’s Eye B” package featuring lidar and multiple sensors for full autopilot navigation in both urban and highway settings, and the “God’s Eye C” system, which is a more basic version relying primarily on a triple-camera setup for highway navigation. Overall, the Song L GT blends sporty styling with cutting-edge technology and refined electric performance, strengthening BYD’s position in the competitive EV SUV market.
