Carlex's 6x6 G-Class, From Renderings to Reality?

Author: |

Carlex Design, renowned for its meticulously crafted and visually striking interior enhancements for luxury vehicles, has broadened its horizons in recent years, undertaking increasingly ambitious projects. Their latest endeavor, a truly unique six-wheeled Mercedes-Benz G-Class, has been christened the "Habemus," a name that evokes a sense of grandeur and perhaps even a touch of irony.

This extraordinary Mercedes-based creation has, thus far, only been showcased through a series of digital renderings. While the automotive world has witnessed numerous imaginative interpretations of the G-Class over the years, Carlex Design's Habemus stands apart. Whether Carlex intends to utilize a million-dollar G63 6x6 as the foundation for this build or transform a standard G-Class into a six-wheeled behemoth remains unclear, though the latter seems the more probable approach.

The front section of the Habemus retains the familiar G-Class aesthetic, albeit with the addition of bespoke grilles, a redesigned bumper, and dramatic gold accents. However, the real transformation begins from the B-pillar rearward. Directly behind the cabin sits an expansive bed, but this is no ordinary cargo area. Instead, it is centered around a large, swiveling seat, positioned prominently in the middle. This configuration echoes the design of the newly unveiled all-electric G-Class Popemobile, but offers significantly more space due to the Habemus's extended wheelbase and additional rear axle. Flanking the central seat on either side of the bed are four smaller seats, creating a unique social space.

Being a Carlex Design project, the interior is predictably lavish, showcasing an array of high-end materials. Luxurious white leather covers the majority of the cabin surfaces, while a plush red carpet runs throughout the bed, adding a touch of regal elegance. These bespoke touches, combined with the gold embellishments found throughout the vehicle, ensure that this G-Wagen is unlike any other.

The Polish design house has been contacted to ascertain their plans for the Habemus and whether it will progress from digital rendering to physical reality. Even if it does come to fruition, it's highly unlikely that it will actually serve as the Pope's vehicle, as Mercedes-Benz recently provided him with a new G 580 EQ. Nevertheless, the Habemus concept serves as a testament to Carlex Design's creativity and ability to push the boundaries of automotive customization. The Habemus is a bold statement piece.
