Iveco has recently launched an innovative all-electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) specifically for the European market, crafted in collaboration with Hyundai. Named the Iveco eMoovy, this new model is essentially a rebranded version of the Hyundai Staria, adapted into a chassis-cab format and equipped with a fully electric, emissions-free powertrain. This move marks Iveco’s entry into the 2.5-3.5 ton electric LCV category, which the company claims is the first of its kind in this weight class.
The eMoovy’s powertrain is derived from Hyundai’s EV technology, specifically from the electric power system featured in Hyundai Group’s larger EV SUVs. This likely points to the powertrain in models like the Kia EV9 or the forthcoming Hyundai Ioniq 9. The eMoovy is powered by a single electric motor capable of producing 215 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Customers have the option to choose between two battery capacities: 63 kWh and 76 kWh. The larger battery variant offers a driving range of up to 320 kilometers under the WLTP standard. Additionally, the vehicle is built with an 800V electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities. With a 350 kW charger, the eMoovy can gain 100 kilometers of range within just 10 minutes of charging.
While Hyundai has not yet released an electric version of the Staria, which is currently available with internal combustion and hybrid powertrains, this partnership with Iveco might suggest that the MPV could soon adopt a fully electric drivetrain. This would further align with Hyundai’s expanding electric vehicle strategy and their emphasis on zero-emission mobility solutions. Externally, the eMoovy bears a close resemblance to Hyundai's ST1, which is the cab-chassis iteration of the Staria. The most notable difference is a revised front grille featuring Iveco branding. The rear portion of the vehicle is highly customizable, with options for different body configurations such as a box van or a pickup style.
Depending on the specific configuration, the eMoovy offers a maximum load capacity of 10 cubic meters and a payload capacity of up to 1.5 tons. According to Iveco, the vehicle’s low profile makes it especially suited for logistics and delivery purposes, as the low ground clearance enhances both cargo space and operator accessibility. Inside, the eMoovy retains much of the Staria’s interior setup, with features like a digital cockpit, eco-leather seats with heating and ventilation, and a variety of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) also being present.
The eMoovy made its debut at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover. In addition to this electric LCV, Hyundai and Iveco are collaborating on electric heavy-duty truck projects for the European market, building on a partnership established in 2022. This collaboration reflects both companies’ commitment to advancing carbon-neutral transport solutions and expanding their reach in the electric mobility sector.
