Mahindra Unveils Four-Door Thar Roxx

Author: |

Mahindra has significantly expanded the appeal of its Thar model with the introduction of the new four-door variant, the Thar Roxx, designed to enhance both practicality and comfort while preserving the vehicle’s rugged off-road capabilities. This new version builds on the Thar's robust foundation with a more refined ladder frame chassis, which aims to provide a smoother driving experience compared to the previous iteration. Notably, the Thar Roxx continues to use traditional gasoline and diesel engines, without venturing into electrification.

The Thar Roxx features an extended body, measuring 4,428 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width, and 1,923 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. This represents a notable increase of 443 mm in length and 400 mm in wheelbase over the standard Thar model. These dimensions not only accommodate the additional two doors but also contribute to a more spacious and practical design.

In terms of styling, the Thar Roxx presents several updates over the original Thar. It showcases a revamped front grille with six vertical slots arranged in two stacks, offering a distinctive look. Both the front and rear bumpers have received subtle refinements, while the headlights and taillights now feature modern LED lighting. The vehicle is also available in a two-tone color scheme, which simulates the appearance of a removable hardtop, though this is purely cosmetic. It rides on either 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels shod with 255/60 tires, enhancing its rugged aesthetic.

Inside, the Thar Roxx retains much of the interior design from the three-door model but incorporates several upgrades. These include improved materials, better noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) control, and enhanced practicality. The cabin now features a new 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a matching 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in mid-level trims and above. The flagship version adds luxury touches such as ventilated front seats, a cooled glovebox, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

The Thar Roxx offers two engine options, both of which provide greater power and torque compared to the standard model. The turbocharged 2.0-liter mStallion TGDi four-cylinder gasoline engine delivers up to 174 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, while the 2.2-liter mHawk turbodiesel engine produces up to 172 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations, paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

For off-road enthusiasts, the Thar Roxx includes features designed to enhance its capabilities. It is equipped with the 4Xplor System, which features electronic locking differentials and various Terrain Modes. The vehicle also introduces the Crawl Smart Assist system, a first for an Indian-built vehicle. It boasts impressive off-road credentials with a 41.7° approach angle and a wading depth of 650 mm.

Despite being produced in India, the Thar Roxx is equipped with six airbags and offers over 10 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) features, providing Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities. It is built on Mahindra’s new M_Glyde ladder-frame architecture, offering a refined ride akin to the Mahindra XUV700 SUV.

This represents an increase of $1,950 over the two-door Thar model. According to Autocar India, bookings for the Thar Roxx will begin on October 2, with deliveries scheduled to start on October 12.
