The G-Class came to the market in 1979. The vehicle is one the most important off-roaders of the automotive history and now Mercedes-Benz company has a reason to celebrate the beloved G-Class: the production of its 400,000th unit.
To mark this milestone, the company built a red Mercedes Benz G-Class and delivered it to a loyal customer, Rhineland. Apparently, Rhineland has been a fan of the G-Class since the day it came into this world (1979). Right now, he owns almost 20 different models of this off-roader and he believes he cannot live without “the G”.
Dr Emmerich Schiller, head of the Off-Road Vehicles division and CEO of Mercedes-Benz G GmbH in Graz/Austria says,
We are so proud to have produced 400,000 of these off-road vehicles. We’d like to thank our loyal customers and fans, plus our employees – not to mention our production partner in Graz, Magna Steyr. At present, demand far exceeds the production capacity available. And we’re already writing the next chapter in this success story: we’re electrifying this series so the G will have a zero-emissions future, making our icon future-proof
The G sub-brand is critical part of the Mercedes Benz strategic plans. The realignment concentrates on delivering an electric, sustainable and luxurious driving experience. Due to the importance of these plans, Mercedes-Benz has asked different suppliers to join the team as they move forward to being carbon neutral. One of their suppliers, Magna Steyr, is going to be carbon-neutral until 2022. They plan to protect the climate, environment and resources altogether.
The new G-Class model came to the market in 2018. It has a very impressive performance, either while enjoying and off-road adventure or on solid and regular roads.
