New Yorkers are already aware of the Mustang Mach-E since certain cab businesses in the city have begun to use them. Officials in New York City have chosen the Ford Mustang Mach-E as the city's newest police car. The city of New York plans to buy 184 of the electric crossings, according to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).
These vehicles will be utilized for police enforcement and emergency situations. The Mustang Mach-E GT was chosen by DCAS for its police cruisers, according to the company. This grade currently has 480 horsepower and 813 Nm of torque, as well as an EPA-rated range of 270 miles. DCAS also announced that it has installed 29 fast chargers for the New York Police Department and 103 fast chargers for the general public. In 2022, another 275 fast chargers are expected to be installed.
The electric crossovers will replace the NYPD's 6,200-vehicle fleet's aged internal-combustion engines. According to DCAS, the number of electric cars will progressively expand until they make up the whole fleet by 2035.
The news comes only months after a specially modified Mustang Mach-E police pilot car passed the Michigan State Police's yearly police vehicle assessment program, a significant procedure that police departments around the country use to choose their vehicles.
Apart from the obvious elements like sirens and flashing lights, Ford has yet to announce what changes its police-spec Mustang Mach-Es would have.
By the second half of 2022, the first police-spec prototypes should be discreetly haunting the streets.
