The investigation into this issue was launched by Ram's Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance group on January 20, 2023, and it continued through March 2023. The software in the powertrain control module was shown to be the root of this problem, according to the research. There are 206 customer records, 636 warranty claims, and 53 field reports of the vehicles stalling as of March 30, 2023.

131,700 2021 Ram 1500 models equipped with the 5.7-liter eTorque V8 engine are subject to a recall. Under certain circumstances, an excessively rich fuel mixture might cause the engine to stall. A single report of an accident without casualties is also available.

For these trucks, Ram will upgrade the Powertrain Control Module calibration software. If owners have previously had a recall-related repair, they can submit the original receipt or proof of payment to the firm for reimbursement.

The eTorque system is powered by a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist. The 5.7-liter V8's total output of 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque is unaffected.

On June 2, Ram will begin mailing notifications to impacted owners. An update to the software fixes the issue. The affected Rams' production dates specifically range from June 3, 2020, to September 12, 2021.
