Mercedes-Benz aficionados have longed for a G-Wagen Cabriolet modified by AMG, and while the automaker has never ventured into this territory, Refined Marques, a custom tuner in Germany, has stepped in to fill the void with its unique creation – the Mercedes-AMG G63 Cabriolet. This one-of-20 custom marvel, based on the new G63, features a convertible soft top and distinctive suicide rear doors, addressing both performance and accessibility with flair.
Refined Marques' ambitious project utilizes the potent G63 as its foundation, incorporating the car's 577-horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine. The design draws inspiration from the 2013 G500 Final Edition, but with a creative twist – the addition of two smaller suicide doors for the rear bench, enhancing ease of entry and exit. Ahmed Al Bakry, CEO of Refined Marques, explained that the unconventional door choice was influenced by a desire to facilitate access for larger passengers.
Originally conceived as a one-off concept, the G63 Cabriolet took shape when Al Bakry's son suggested the idea during a drive in their G Brabus. The concept resonated with Al Bakry, and as he shared the vision with friends and clients, demand surged among wealthy collectors from the Middle East. What began as a unique vision transformed into a limited production of 20 units, each meticulously crafted over an 18-month development period.
The custom G63 Cabriolet not only meets but exceeds the expectations of discerning clients. Al Bakry emphasized the commitment to delivering factory-level quality or better, ensuring a flawless finish. To validate their craftsmanship, the finished product was scrutinized by a former head of quality control at Mercedes-Benz, who, after an exhaustive examination, couldn't find a single fault.
The exclusivity and allure of the G63 Cabriolet are underscored by its limited availability, with most units already sold. Al Bakry mentioned that he is eagerly awaiting a client's deposit for the final build slot. Prospective buyers interested in this distinctive G-Wagen will have to explore the second-hand market, though Al Bakry hinted that prices are unlikely to be lower. Notably, the owner of the showcased China Blue example declined an offer more than double the $1.3-million starting price, illustrating the extraordinary demand for this bespoke creation. For those seeking unparalleled luxury and performance in a convertible G-Class, the Refined Marques' Mercedes-AMG G63 Cabriolet stands as a rare and sought-after masterpiece.
