General Motors has announced a temporary halt in production for the Chevrolet Corvette at its Bowling Green assembly plant, spanning four separate weeks until the end of May. These pauses are attributed to multiple factors, including preparations for anticipated updates to the 2026 model.
The first scheduled production break at Bowling Green is set to begin on February 24, followed by additional pauses in the weeks commencing on March 17, March 24, and May 19. One of the primary reasons for these temporary shutdowns is inventory management, ensuring that supply aligns with demand for the Corvette.
Another key factor contributing to the pauses is a workforce shift at the assembly plant. According to a member of the Mid Engine Corvette Forum, many long-serving employees at Bowling Green are retiring, and General Motors has decided not to replace them. As a result, remaining workers will need to take on additional responsibilities, which will require extensive retraining to ensure a smooth transition. Furthermore, the factory is undergoing modifications to accommodate production changes for the upcoming 2026 Corvette.
Although details regarding updates to the 2026 model remain limited, there have been ongoing discussions about a potential significant redesign of the Corvette's interior. However, Chevrolet has yet to confirm whether this will take place. Speculation within Corvette forums suggests that a new Grand Sport variant might be introduced, positioned between the Stingray and the E-Ray in the lineup. This model could feature an enhanced version of the existing 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine but may not incorporate hybrid technology.
Aside from any potential new models, minor refinements are also expected across the 2026 model year range. These could include new exterior color options, refreshed interior materials, and subtle design updates to enhance the overall appeal of the Corvette lineup.

This high-performance model is set to be the most extreme iteration of the C8 Corvette, featuring a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine.
