The 2025 GWM Haval H6 GT Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has been revealed with comprehensive details for the Australian market. This plug-in hybrid variant is based on the GWM Haval H6, a medium-sized SUV that is set to receive updates for its petrol and hybrid models in early 2025. While the plug-in hybrid version has not been officially confirmed for Australia, GWM has expressed strong optimism about its potential introduction. Meanwhile, the GWM Cannon Alpha plug-in hybrid ute is expected to arrive in the first half of 2025, and the seven-seat Tank 500 PHEV is still under review for local release.

The H6 GT PHEV offers an advanced all-wheel-drive system powered by a combination of a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine (producing 110kW and 230Nm) and an electric drivetrain. The electric setup includes two motors at the front and a 135kW/232Nm motor at the rear, delivering a combined output of 342kW and 762Nm. This performance-focused system is supported by a 35.4kWh battery pack, which is similar in size to that of the discontinued Mazda MX-30 EV. The H6 GT PHEV boasts a remarkable electric-only range of 180 kilometers, although this figure is based on the older NEDC testing standard, which is generally more optimistic compared to the stricter WLTP standard. GWM states that the hybrid SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and claims a total range of over 1000 kilometers, enough to travel between Melbourne and Sydney on a single tank and a fully charged battery.

Charging flexibility is another highlight of the H6 GT PHEV. It supports fast DC charging at up to 48kW, enabling a 30-80% charge in under 30 minutes, while a 6.6kW AC home charger offers convenient overnight recharging. These options ensure compatibility with various charging infrastructure setups, catering to diverse user needs.

Australian buyers can now place pre-orders for the 2025 GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV ahead of its release, expected between January and March 2025. The electrified SUV’s specifications are based on the non-hybrid H6 GT Ultra variant, currently available for $41,990 drive-away until the end of 2024. The PHEV version, priced at $55,990 drive-away, undercuts key competitors, including the entry-level Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the all-wheel-drive BYD Sealion 6 Premium, and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Cruiser with comparable on-road costs. With competitive pricing, strong performance, and versatile charging options, the H6 GT PHEV presents a compelling choice for Australian SUV buyers seeking efficiency and capability in a plug-in hybrid.
