Maextro has officially launched its highly anticipated S800 luxury sedan in China, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class. This impressive vehicle offers both all-electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) powertrain options, boasts an array of 32 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) sensors, measures a substantial 5480 mm in length, and delivers a maximum power output of up to 852 hp. Sales are scheduled to commence in China this May, with prices ranging from 1 to 1.5 million yuan ($136,000 to $205,000), and featuring 6C fast charging capability.

The official launch ceremony, held on February 20th, focused on showcasing the cutting-edge technologies integrated into the Maextro S800. Notably, it is the first vehicle to incorporate Huawei’s “Tuling Longxing” digital platform, which supports autonomous learning for continuous domain control improvements. The S800’s versatile chassis is designed to accommodate a wide range of powertrain configurations, including dual-motor, tri-motor, and even quad-motor setups, resulting in power outputs ranging from 480 to a staggering 1300 hp. This adaptable chassis is also suitable for a variety of vehicle types, from sedans and SUVs to minivans, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3 to 3.8 tons.

The exterior of the Maextro S800 is characterized by a sophisticated two-tone paint scheme, complemented by 20-inch wheels featuring self-aligning wheel caps. A prominent LiDAR sensor is positioned on the roof, hinting at the vehicle's advanced perception capabilities. As a large luxury sedan, the S800 measures 5480 mm in length, 2000 mm in width, and 1536 mm in height, with a generous wheelbase of 3370 mm.

As Huawei’s flagship offering in the automotive sector, the Maextro S800 is replete with the IT giant’s technological innovations. These include the Huawei ADS road perception system, the Huawei DATS (Dynamic Adaptive Torque System), and the Huawei Xmotion body control system. Maextro officials are particularly proud of the Huawei ADS road perception system, which automatically scans the road ahead, dynamically adjusting torque distribution and front and rear steering for optimal performance and handling.

The S800’s active suspension system anticipates and reacts to road imperfections, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride even on challenging surfaces. Furthermore, the vehicle features four-wheel steering technology, which significantly enhances maneuverability. Despite its considerable size, the S800 boasts a turning radius of just 5.05 meters in normal driving conditions. In a specialized mode, this turning radius can be further reduced to an impressive 3.8 meters. Another innovative feature is the "crab walk" mode, which allows the car to move sideways by up to 16 degrees. Maextro has previously showcased this capability in a video demonstrating the S800 "crab walking" between two Mercedes-Benz Maybachs.

The S800’s comprehensive perception system comprises 32 sensors, including four high-performance 192-line LiDARs. These advanced sensors enhance detection range in adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, and dust by 60% and reduce perception delay by 40%. The ADAS system can autonomously detect potential collisions and proactively adjust the vehicle's body posture, seat position, tighten seatbelts, raise windows, and unlock the central locking system. In the event of a collision, the Maextro S800 automatically switches to a redundant power supply and transmits rescue information.

The S800’s headlights incorporate a real-time perception function, allowing them to dynamically follow the vehicle's trajectory. The high beams can also interact with the driver and pedestrians, further enhancing safety. Another noteworthy feature is the double-layer air circulation system, which effectively purifies the cabin air from bacteria, viruses, and harmful gases.

The EREV variant of the Maextro S800 supports an 800V high-voltage system, enabling 6C fast charging. This means the battery can be charged with DC power six times its capacity. With a 65 kWh battery, the S800 EREV can be charged at up to 390 kW, allowing for a 10% to 80% charge in just 10.5 minutes.

Maextro S800 BEV

The Maextro S800 offers both BEV and EREV powertrain options. The BEV variant is available with a tri-motor setup producing a combined 852 hp. The EREV variant comes standard with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering 523 hp and a 1.5-liter range extender. A more powerful tri-motor EREV version is also available, boasting a peak power output of 635 kW. With its impressive array of technologies, performance capabilities, and luxurious features, the Maextro S800 is poised to make a significant impact on the Chinese luxury car market when it launches in May.
