Porsche 911 Dakar Pays Tribute to Rally Legend

Porsche has officially concluded the production of its exclusive 911 Dakar, with the final unit standing out as an extraordinary creation, thanks to the expertise of the brand’s Sonderwunsch (Special Request) division. This last example serves as a tribute to the legendary 1984 Paris-Dakar rally-winning 911, famously driven by René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne. Its distinctive features make it a fitting homage to this motorsport icon.

What immediately captures attention about this 911 Dakar is its bespoke exterior design, which draws inspiration from the Rothmans-sponsored rally car. However, it takes this iconic aesthetic to a new level with a more dramatic and modern interpretation. The exterior is painted in a striking blend of Signal Yellow and Gentian Blue Metallic. The vibrant yellow dominates the top half of the vehicle, while the blue defines the bottom portion. These two bold colors are separated by bright blue pinstripes, giving the car a dynamic and eye-catching appearance. Adding to its uniqueness, the wheels are finished in the same yellow as the bodywork, accented with Lampedeusablue highlights, a nod to a Mediterranean island.

The craftsmanship involved in creating this car is unparalleled. Porsche revealed that the entire body of the vehicle was painted meticulously by hand, demonstrating the level of detail and care invested in this special model. Enhancements include stainless steel components on the front, rear, and side sills painted in black, with additional Lampedeusablue accent rings around the headlights for a cohesive yet striking look.

Under the hood, the 911 Dakar retains the impressive performance characteristics shared by the rest of the limited production run of 2,500 units. It is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that generates a robust 473 horsepower. This engine is paired with an eight-speed PDK transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, ensuring exceptional performance on and off the road.

Inside, the cabin is equally remarkable, featuring a blend of black leather and Alcantara materials. Bright accents add vibrancy, with pops of color on the steering wheel, door panels, transmission tunnel, and dashboard. Speed Yellow contrast stitching further enhances the interior’s sporty aesthetic, while custom LED entrance lights project the Sonderwunsch logo onto the ground.

While Porsche hasn’t disclosed the exact cost of this customized 911 Dakar, it undoubtedly surpasses the model’s original $220,000 price tag. Before the keys are handed over to its lucky owner, enthusiasts can view this masterpiece at Porsche’s museum, offering a final opportunity to admire its craftsmanship and celebrate its legacy.
