The sixth generation of the Subaru Impreza was presented in US-spec form at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show, but the small hatchback has yet to be officially unveiled in Japan, where it is sold.
While the Impreza built for the American market has a 2.5-liter boxer engine with no electrification and 182 horsepower, Japanese consumers can choose the 2.0-liter e-Boxer self-charging hybrid powertrain. The new Subaru Crosstrek fits the same description. With an additional 13 hp and 65 Nm of torque coming from the electric motor, the 2.0-liter e-output Boxer's is 143 hp and 188 Nm of torque. Subaru did not provide specifics regarding the possible versions, but we anticipate that the 2017 Impreza will be available with the Lineatronic CVT in FWD and AWD configurations.
With the exception of the white reflectors on the headlights, the JDM-spec Subaru Impreza is almost identical to its US-spec sibling in terms of design. Moreover, the front doors and the tailgate both have an e-Boxer emblem that alludes to the Japanese model's hybrid drivetrain. The orange shade known as "Sunbrace Pearl" that made its premiere in the Tokyo Motor Salon show may be part of a new color scheme for Japan.
The right-hand position of the steering wheel is the only interior variation from the US-spec vehicle. The infotainment system's 11.6-inch touchscreen is the focal point, while the instrument panel's analog dials are still present. The EyeSight ADAS package, which makes use of an upgraded wide-angle monocular camera, will also be advantageous for the hatchback.
The US-spec model is expected to hit dealerships in the spring of 2023. As the new Impreza's market launch in Japan approaches, Subaru will provide more details about its specifications.
